MY JANUARY 2025 NEWSLETTER:
Your patient wait (and mine) has paid off! I delayed putting out this newsletter until I had good book news. Now, after several false starts, I HAVE A NEW PUBLISHER for A Slice of Orange! Last week I signed a contract with Unsolicited Press, Portland Oregon. Publication is set for December 2026 (so in two years your holiday gifts will be all set!) What cinched the deal is that I can do advance sales, and therefore events, as early as this year. Unsolicited is conscientious (the process really does take two years), literary, and spirited. I am joyful and relieved – I was just about to self-publish. Now back to editing …
With Slice on her way, now I can focus on finding a home for Plant Talk – When the Tree Hugs You Back, which teaches how to access nature’s support, even when facing difficult odds. It may seem like a small thing, but the small things matter and this little cactus brightened my day.
The current weightiness of fires, wars and politics compel me to draw on all possible resources in order to stay afloat. Nature is a big help. But it is also in our nature to need one another’s company. I had fun over the holiday season (which included a BIG birthday) which reminded me that our creativity and companionship may be needed now more than ever.
Meanwhile in Nepal, Tattooed Trucks of Nepal – Horn Please! is being shown sporting its new Nepali subtitles! Nepal’s Fine Arts Academy held a well-attended showing in Kathmandu and the audience included some of the truck artists themselves. We hope the film will gain the momentum to be shown around the country.
I know I am extremely lucky to have a creative partnership with my wonderful husband, Ron, and that we have health and energy which has not always been the case. You know what else we have? Wild rabbits. Yes, there are coyotes all around and not just in the animal kingdom. Let’s do our best to take care of the rabbits and of one another.
Wishing you health, courage and fortitude. May we create a kinder world together as we face the many challenges – and the pleasures and celebrations – of 2025.
Warmly,
Nicola
