The Road Ahead!

My new license plates confirm that I AM getting ready for the road ahead!
My head can barely contain all the details involved in a book launch as A Slice of Orange (Unsolicited Press 12/8/26) gets ready for her public appearance (is that why it is called a debut?). Marketing fun is an essential distraction – what could possibly be next, wardrobe?

Early reviews are coming out. In my last newsletter I said I was thrilled with the review in the Los Angeles Review of Books. Sorry, my mistake! It was in the Los Angeles Book Review. (See what I mean about details?) Last month brought me my first ever Google Alert for Slice the book – usually Mrs. Google alerts me whenever orange slices come up in new martini recipes – or when an astronaut tries to eat one in space!

However this REAL alert was because Gina Simmons Schneider, author of Frazzlebrain (how to break free from anxiety, anger and stress) interviewed me for her Psychology Today blog. Thanks Gina!

I was pleasantly surprised (and a tad nervous) when the Osho News asked to review Slice. And delighted that it turned out to be fair.

Speaking of cults, another highlight of the ICSA conference was meeting Vikram Ghardi creator of the extraordinary documentary Kumaré (available on Netflix and YouTube) in which he masquerades as a cult leader and develops both a following and an ethical dilemma. I highly recommend it.

There are more podcasts coming up – and a virtual presentation on Untangling Compliance with a focus on sex, love, intimacy and resilience at New Zealand’s De-Cult conference in October. (If any ex-culties would like to share their take on this topic please contact me.)

Ron and I celebrated 28 years of being together with a long weekend in Santa Ynez (near Santa Barbara) doing NOTHING but looking at stars and listening to crickets. And eating. It was heavenly!

Camino books in Del Mar is still the place to buy your pre-orders of A Slice of Orange which can double as seat reservations for the Saturday November 14, 3 pm launch in the Encinitas Library.

There will also be a December 6 event at the wonderful Carlsbad Village Books (plus November events in Portland, Oregon). Below is one reason I like Carlsbad Village Books

Friends and neighbors have been hit with a lot of loss recently. Combined with devastation to our planet and suffering all around us it sometimes feels like swimming upstream in a collective field of grief. Here is a pink hibiscus to help us take a deep breath and treasure this moment.

Wishing you all some good moments to savor.
See you on Instagram or Facebook or YouTube.
Warmly,
Nicola
